Celebrating the Arrival of a Sister
Mom's favorite colour is yellow and so that became the focus. When I created the squares in the squares it seemed a bit dull so I cut each one on the diagonal and it began to dance a bit. I like the way the darks and the lights create extra patterns.
a progress shot where I was laying out the elements.
after I had decided the layout for the blocks, I wanted to add a bit more interest....So I decided to add a prairie point border with all the yellows. This way, when she gets a bit older, she can play with the triangles along the edge. I put a darker border behind the prairie points so they could pop forward a bit.
Detail: showing you the corner treatment with the quilting. I did simple quilting in the ditch. I find that if the quilting is too dense, the quilt becomes stiff and less cozy.
The label on the back was created using a satin stitch.
And for the big sister who is begining to understand letters, especially those in her name .....
I made a little banner in a similar colour way that has beads dangling from the flags and a custom binding across the top that will serve as the hanging tool.
